Graciette Simao Rosa was born in Obidos, Portugal and was a long time resident of the Greater Hartford area in Connecticut. She attended CCSU and received a degree in Education. Mrs. Rosa spent many years helping students especially those with specials needs. She passed away, way too early, in 2008 of pancreatic cancer, at a young age of 56.

The scholarship was endowed in 2009 and the first scholarship was presented in 2011 to Melissa Tavares in the amount of $1,000. Since then a total of ten students have benefited from the proceeds of the endowment and over $10,000 have been distributed.

The last recipient was Adriana Marie Sciancalepore attending the School of Education in Elementary school who received $1850.00 and made the following statement:

“Receiving the Graciette Maria Simao Rosa Scholarship really means a lot to me. My parents are not able to cover the full cost of college, so I need to take out loans to help pay for the costs my parents cannot cover. Getting a scholarship such as this helps reduce the amount of loans I will need to take out, so I really appreciate it. I am proud to be a student in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Central Connecticut State University. Ever since I first toured the campus during my junior year of high school, I knew this was the college I wanted to attend, and I am proud to say I am now entering my senior year. The fact that Mrs. Rosa’s family is giving a scholarship to a CCSU student in her honor means she must have also loved her time at CCSU. I am proud to receive this scholarship in her name, and want to thank her family for funding this scholarship.”
